How to Choose the Perfect Sleeper Sofa
Picture this. Family or friends call telling us that they’re going to be visiting our islands soon and we feel obliged to host them. Oh, we’ve all been there, and we know the drill. As soon as the word ‘YES’ slips off our lips the panic starts to creep in, we completely forgot that our guest room has now been converted into a glorified storage space.
You see, in an ideal world, homes would always have full guest rooms, complete with a spare bed for friends and family who are visiting. But in the real world, that isn’t always the case. This dear friends is the exact moment when RLiving’s Fama collection becomes our life-saver. You see, giving your guests a comfortable space has never been this easy.
Of course, if you’ve ever slept on a sofa bed, you may think that it has yet to be perfected. Not the comfiest of sorts (you might be thinking to yourself). Think again. We have carefully selected two of our preferred models – Indy or Bolero and we’re quite sure you’re going to love them as much as we do.
In the meanwhile, here are five of our favourite tips to consider before going sofa bed shopping
While comfort and style are important when choosing a sleeper sofa, there are other things you should consider as well: how it will be used, how often it will be used for sleeping and what size room it will be in. Measure how much space you have available for the fully extended sleeper sofa. Oh and measure your door – it needs to get through now, doesn’t it?
Sit on it while it’s a folded sofa. Most of the time, you’re going to be using this piece of furniture like a sofa, not a bed so it’s smart to make sure that the cushions are comfy and it’s a great addition to your living space and not sure a bed.
Fact – If you can’t get the hang of opening and closing your sofa bed in the showroom, setting it up at home is always going to be a nightmare. Your mattress should fold out in one smooth motion and have a locking bar to secure its position Squeaks, sticking, or wobbly parts are all red flags. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Check if the edges/corners are smooth. Rough or sharp edges could snag, causing the fabric on your sofa bed—or your mattress’s sheets or blankets—to rip. Ouch.
Check that the mattress is a standard size. Mark our words, if your mattress isn’t a standard twin, full, double, or queen, you’re guaranteed to drive yourself crazy trying to find a fitted sheet.
A sofa bed will provide stylish living room seating as well as a bed for any guests, unexpected or otherwise. Indy and Bolero (don’t you love their names?) are both practical and versatile so whichever you choose you’ve made the right decision. Watch this 3minute video and get inspired
