Setting the Mood for BBQ season

Setting the Mood for BBQ season

It’s barbecue season and when it comes to entertaining, barbecues are the perfect opportunity to fire up the grill and set the right mood.

Put your feet up and read my tips for playing the perfect hostess in no time!

Whilst it is not essential to invest in an outdoor bar cart, this handy piece of furniture can make serving drinks and food a little easier and stylish.

Tip: Your bar cart can also be used to set down plates and dishes you and your guests are done with. Making it much easier for them to be taken into the kitchen.

Have pitchers/jugs filled with iced tea placed at each end of the table for ease of accessibility. I like to use PG Tips and filtered water for the following straightforward brew.

Makes 1 ½ litres :

  • Place 6 PG Tips teabags in a teapot and cover with approximately 500ml freshly boiled water.
  • Steep for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags without squeezing them (so as not to add bitterness)
  • Add 1 litre of cold water and mix.
  • Let mixture cool at room temperature and refrigerate until cold.
  • Serve with lemon wedges.
  • Optional add-ins: sweetener of choice, fresh mint leaves, sliced cucumber

Adding candles as seen on the table setting below, creates a soft glow to your setting. Ideally place candles in glass hurricanes so that they won’t get blown out in the wind.

Baking in the burning sun is no fun — so unless your outdoor space has a roof, pergola or other built-in shade structure, you’ll want to bring in something extra for daytime barbecues. Freestanding umbrellas are more flexible than the table mounted type, allowing you to bring the shade exactly where it’s needed. Look for one that is a little bigger than you think you’ll need. Your guests will thank you.

Once summer is in full bloom, I’ll create a pot with freshly cut foliage or flowers from my garden. I’ll take inspiration from this image layering the objects on my table and varying their heights to create a lush and cohesive tablescape for a more formal dinner.

Music definitely sets the right ambiance, if you don’t have an audio system, worry not and opt for a simple portable wireless speaker such as the one seen in the image below.
